Reimagining the Web Design Process

With the world shifting to the internet, the web designing arena is undergoing a complete transformation. Being a mobile centric environment, users today access everything via their smart phones. Due to this shift, the web designers today are shifting to Mobile first followed by desktop and tablets. In this process, the web developers, create website for mobiles and then add up more details and images for the desktop users.

With the world moving to the internet the web design arena has undergone a tremendous transformation. Today, websites have become an integral part of the any business or company and their growth. Traditionally the websites were designed for the desktop viewers, but now as the mobile phones has gained so much of popularity, the industry is leaning towards being more and more mobile centric.

As the multimedia tools are growing, the web developers today prefer to develop a webpage for the smart phone users and not desktop users. Considering the present scenario, the web developers and the website owners earn greater profit by their “Mobile first” plan.

As there are different ways to develop a web page for a mobile and a desktop, web developers these days develop a page for the mobile users and then add various multimedia tools over that and develop a webpage for the desktop users. Developers today are designing prototypes, systems, for future growth and development. The designs and techniques that these developers put in today, are aimed at pacing up with the rapidly growing device landscape and technological advancement.

The web designing arena has become been progressing with the technology, the old designs are outdated and overhaul.  These advanced designers today are bridging the gap between design and development.

Therefore, web pages nowadays are designed on the basis of Mobile First and later for other devices. They focus on designing web pages with simple layouts for smaller screens first and then add the tools to create web pages for the bigger screens.

As people today are adopting mobiles devices over PCs, Mobile first is becoming an integral part for a web developer. Mobile first is gaining popularity, as people are growing smarter today, and replacing desktop with mobile phones. Advanced mobile technology incorporates every features of a PC.

As mobile technology is becoming the way of the future, phones, tablets, and other smart small screen technology is being adopted at a large scale worldwide. According to the latest reports, smartphone users have surpassed upto 1 billion PC desktop in 2012, and 1.75 billion in 2014.

Due to this growing small screen users, web developers today, have shifted their minds to develop web pages depending on the growing demand. Due to this, these website developers have adopted Responsive Web Design (RWD).

So what do mean by Responsive Web Design? RWD is a design tool used by designers and developers makes sure that the advanced tools adopted to design the website can be viewed from different array of devices. RWD makes sure that the information available on the site is clearly visible and accessible in full view to the mobile users.

Mobile users viewing websites not developed on the basis of Mobile first norm, often have to pinch on their small screen phones, and scrolls back and forth numerous times. Whereas this doesn’t occur if the viewer is a desktop user, therefore it becomes inconvenient for the mobile users to again login via PC just because the content is not clear through their mobile phones.

To combat these problems, many businesses and companies have adopted the benefits provided by RWD and have implemented a mobile-first strategy. Mobile first strategy is a website design strategy that develops mobile sites first and follows up by the tablet and desktop versions.

This design strategy was developed few years ago, to solve several smart phone users’ pain points. Mobile phone users often want to complete their task via their phones and are lazy to log in through desktop or tablets. Mobile first creates a smaller version of the website, in which no data is lost or cuts content or any functionality.

Having a desktop site first and then shifting to a mobile site can undergo a severe loss of data. Several companies prefer websites over mobile sites as they can display bigger pictures on desktop. People today will want to check a company’s website on their smart phones, and enabling in doing so, can led to mistrust of the users on the company. Therefore, it is mandatory for the companies to have a common service via all the devices, and not making the mobile sites a second class citizen on the web.

Mobile first site delivers a number of benefits to its developers and users:

  1. Provides a clear navigation site, which is a key to enable every user to know his intended destination. It will increase the amount of sales and newsletter subscription by the users.
  2. Due  to Mobile first design, several problems are easily solved, such as for instance if a company a plans to redesign their website. Mobile first norm allows the company to break down and solve these problems and delivers a set of solutions. Complications arrive in developing a desktop site first and then shifting to mobile, numerous data is lost in this procedure. However, in the Mobile first norm, developers and designers identifies and resolves these issues before the development of the website.
  3. Adopting an advanced technology and design, to manage the rapidly growing environment. It's easy for a builder to construct a room first rather that an entire apartment. In the similar manner, it’s easy for a web developer to design a small screen webpage and then followed by a desktop webpage. A desktop environment contents information, images, videos and all extra details to fill space. On the other hand, in the mobile first the contents displayed are clear, concise, and easy for a user to access through it and understand better.
Adopting the new design strategy, has made easy for the mobile phone users to access anything  they want from their smart devices, without any restrictions or problems. This new development has resulted in a much clear and polish look of the website. Mobile first has been  a boost for the web design industry and will continue its contribution in the long run.
